How to Eat Healthier without Making Major Lifestyle Changes

How to Eat Healthier without Making Major Lifestyle Changes. If you want to start eating healthier on a day-to-day basis or if you know that you are not quite happy with the lifestyle that you have right now, then it is more than possible for you to make a change. In fact, sometimes a very small change can have a huge impact on your health.

Starchy Carbohydrates

One-third of the foods that you eat should include starchy carbohydrates. This can include pasta, cereal, and even rice as well. Try and choose as many varieties as you can, and leave the skin on the potatoes you eat. When you do this, you can then feel fuller for longer and you can also boost your immune system. A good rule of thumb is for you to eat at least one type of starchy food with every meal you eat. So many people think that starchy foods are fattening, but when you look at the gram-for-gram value, you will soon find that they provide you with half the calories of fat.

Fruit and Vegetables

You have probably heard that you need to eat at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables every single day. This can sound like hard work, but in reality, it is easier than it sounds. Try and have one chopped banana on your cereal in the morning, and then have fresh fruit as a snack halfway through the day. You may think that smoothies count as your 5 a day if you include 5 different fruits, but they can only ever count as one. Whole fruit is where it needs to be. If you have just come out of general surgery then this is a very important concept to understand.

Eat more Fish

Fish really is a great source of protein. It is also known for containing a plethora of vitamins and minerals. Try and eat two portions of fish per week if possible. This can include salmon or even tuna. If you are finding this hard to do then think about having a  tuna salad for lunch. You can then have salmon or another similar fish for dinner another night. It’s very easy for you to incorporate foods like this when you put the work in, and you will soon find that it is very cheap to do if you buy whole fish and then freeze them yourself.

Snacks

If you love to snack then why not consider making your own fruit bars? You can do this with ease if you have a food dehydrator. When you have one of these, you can blend fruit together with nuts and then dry them out. This will give you a convenient snacking option when you are out and on the go, not to mention that it will also help you to stay on track rather than diving for the vending machine. If you don’t have a food dehydrator then you can make your own fruit bars with ease by baking them in the oven. If you have kids then don’t be afraid to get them involved as well.
